Data-Driven Conservation

Our Partnership with Intermountain West Joint Venture

BRLC regularly partners with other organizations and agencies in our region. Intermountain West Joint Venture provides us with scientific research to support habitat conservation on private land.

Recent research published by the IWJV shows just how valuable private flood-irrigated agricultural land is to Sandhill Crane migratory corridors. We use tools like the one on the right to show the value of private land conservation to potential private and public funders. Follow the link to see this mapping tool for yourself!

A map highlighting areas in Northern Utah which are especially good Greater Sandhill Crane habitat. Much of the area on the northern edge of the Great Salt Lake from Brigham city to Thatcher and up to Plymouth is highlighted, as is most of Cache valley's lowlands, along with the southern shores of Bear Lake.
IWJV's mapping tool, which highlights Greater Sandhill Crane habitat in red, much of which is on private, flood-irrigated agricultural land.

Our mission is to preserve the benefits of land and water in Northern Utah and the Bear River Watershed for present and future generations. We do this by partnering with communities and landowners to permanently sustain the heritage of working lands and protect natural areas.

Let's stay connected.
